Meals on Wheels of Greeley and Weld County is beginning a new chapter in Firestone satellite location meal service! After a season of learning, listening, and adjusting, meals for clients served through the Firestone site will once again be prepared by our Greeley kitchen, frozen, and distributed through the Firestone satellite location.
The Firestone satellite office, located in the LDS church’s maintenance building, typically serves 30-40 clients. In April, our Greeley kitchen prepared 30 extra meal trays for the Firestone site. These meals were frozen and are now being served to Firestone clients in May, with a menu nearly identical to the April menu prepared in Greeley.
This change comes after a thoughtful review of our process. Firestone meals were originally prepared in the Greeley kitchen before we shifted to a partnership with Golden Gourmet. While that partnership helped with Golden Gourmet. While that partnership helped us explore another way to serve clients, the system also created challenges. Meals had to be ordered three weeks in advance; some items did not hold up as well as needed, and it was difficult to make timely changes when client needs shifted.
By returning meal preparation to our Greeley kitchen, we hope to create a more dependable and flexible process for our South Weld clients. Preparing and freezing meals ourselves allows us to reduce lost meals, make planning more manageable, respond more easily to client changes, and provide a more consistent experience for the people who count on us.
This update reflects our ongoing commitment to client-centered service. Every process change we make is guided by a simple goal: to serve our neighbors with care, consistency, and respect.
We are grateful for the patience and understanding of our clients, volunteers, partners, and staff as we continue strengthening this important satellite service. This new chapter helps us move forward with greater clarity, better planning, and a renewed focus on the people at the heart of our mission.
