Volunteer Appreciation Week is a time to celebrate the people who keep Meals on Wheels moving forward every day. Across communities throughout Weld County, our volunteers help deliver nourishing meals, warm smiles, and meaningful connection to homebound older adults who count on this service.
From delivery drivers to kitchen volunteers to board members, each person plays an important role in our mission. Their dedication brings comfort, consistency, and care to neighbors throughout our community.
This year, we are honoring our volunteers with a Meals on Wheels notebook, a homemade breakfast scone, and a hand-signed thank you card from the MOW staff. These are small gestures compared to the big impact our volunteers make all year long.
Why Volunteers Matter to Meals on Wheels
The heart of Meals on Wheels has always been people helping people. Volunteers help make sure meals arrive on time, routes are covered, kitchens stay moving, and clients feel seen and valued.
For many people we serve, a volunteer is more than the person dropping off lunch. A volunteer may be the friendly face they look forward to seeing, the person who brings a moment of conversation, or the one who leaves a holiday note that brightens the day.
One of our clients said it best:
"Thank you for the good meals, volunteer contact, and the fun holiday notes and cards. You provide wonderful service."
MOW Client
That message reflects the true heart of this work. Volunteers deliver far more than meals. They deliver kindness, dignity, and human connection.
The Impact of Meals on Wheels Volutneers in Weld County
As the aging population in Weld County continues to grow, so does the need for volunteers. More of our neighbors need nutritious meals and meaningful human connection. That growing need creates an opportunity for all of us to come together in a powerful way.
Delivery Drivers Bring Food & Connection
Delivery volunteers help homebound adults receive the meals they need while also offering an important point of personal contact. A brief conversation, a smile, or a familiar visit can mean just as much as the meal itself.
Kitchen Volunteers Help Every Route Begin Strong
Behind every successful delivery is preparation, packing, and teamwork. Kitchen volunteers help meals get ready to go out into the community, making daily service possible.
Board Members Help Sustain the Mission
Board members give their time, leadership, and vision so Meals on Wheels can continue to grow, adapt, and meet local needs. Their service helps build a strong foundation for the future.
Volunteer Appreciation Week is a Chance to Thank Our Community
This week is about honoring our volunteers, but it is also about recognizing the wider community that supports Meals on Wheels. Our biggest supporters help amplify this mission, encourage others to serve, and remind neighbors that local care still matters.
Meals on Wheels is strongest when the community rallies around the people we serve. Supporters, advocates, donors, and volunteers all help create a network of care that reaches people who might otherwise feel forgotten, hungry, or alone.
It doesn’t take a major time commitment to make a real impact. Delivering meals once a week can improve someone’s day, build community relationships, and support a mission that touches lives every day.
Together We Can Deliver
Together, we can make a huge difference for older adults across Weld County. When you volunteer with Meals on Wheels, you help bring nourishment, encouragement, and connection to people in your own community. You also become part of something bigger: neighbors helping neighbors in a practical and deeply meaningful way.
Serving your community can be simple and impactful. One route a week can help bring meals and care directly to homebound adults who need a little extra support.
